Week 3 Projections
I hope it rains; it better reflects my mood. Stupid softball.. I'm 2-4 now.
Anyway, stealing this fantasy article from David because I am lame..
---
Another week of fantasy boom/bust us behind us and as the dust settles, a clearer picture has emerged regarding those who have left the rest of the pack behind and those who can only aspire to be "in the dust".
Game of the Week: Mexican Coke (0-2) at Claw Shrimp (1-1)
This is a make-or-break game for Mex-Co, who can't afford to slip to 0-3 this early. They're a talented team, sporting fantasy households names like LT, Carson Palmer, and Marvin Harrison. Cadillac Williams and Joey Galloway are developing into fine fantasy options. On Claw's side, Kitna suffered a concussion in last week's game, but returned to the game after a "miracle". Give the guy some points for spirit. Unfortunately, league rules haven't been implemented to include spirit points, so unless they're retroactively implemented, expect Mex-Co to pull their first win on the road.
Rest of the Pack
GoNiners (0-2) at Shade Wolves (2-0):
Wolves pulled off an emotional (as in nail-biting anxiety) win over Mexican Coke in Week 2. Coming into Week 3, Wolves join Hail! and the Heftalumps in the undefeated circle. Expect that trend to continue despite unfavorable matchups for Wolves' players. Look for Hasselbeck to light up the reeling Bengals defense, keeping things close for Niners.
Cat Five (1-1) at Fido vs Spot (1-1):
Another important game this week, as both teams started at 0-1 and won their Week 2 games. Both are looking to continue their momentum and roll into Week 4 with a 2-game streak under their belt. The loser will go home to rebuild both their pride and their team. Whereas McNabb may have been absent in Week 1 and the first 3 quarters of Week 2, look for him to improve against a softer defense this week. Jordan and McGahee will carry the running load this week, up and over the Felines, but within 10 points.
Turducken (1-1) at Hefty Heffalumps (2-0):
Turducken seeks to redeem themselves after a humiliating defeat to Hail! in Week 2, falling short of the opposition by nearly 60 points. Their opponent this week will be no more merciful. Brady, Housh, and Addai will rocket the Heftalumps to the win as Bulger sputters against the Bucs and Larry Johnson falls over.
Lock of the Week:
Hail the Magazine! (2-0) at Bad Newz (0-2):
It's bad news this week for Bad Newz, as their first win will have to wait at least another week. This week, they face off against the juggernaut of fantasy points, league leader, and eccentric draft strategist Hail! Touting players like Peyton "My Face Will Soon Replace the NFL Logo" Manning, Steve "I beat the Carolina D in Team Practice Singlehandedly" Smith, and Randy "Even Better at Catching Touchdowns with His Hands" Moss, it'll be hard not to lose without some sort of plague. Sorry Newz, but the Hail! train is red hot and not making a stop in your station.
Final Thoughts: It's been a crazy first two weeks in fantasy football as the traditional structure turned topsy-turvy, resulting in wideouts stealing the limelight as fantasy studs as their conventional bread-and-butter running backs take a back seat. I don't see this trend continuing up to week 5, when wideouts return to planet Earth and all is set right again.
